Joan Rita Rothermel

(October 10, 1944 - November 27, 2022 )

Joan R (Griffin) Rothermel,

age 78, went home to be with the Lord, unexpectedly, on Sunday, November 27th 2022. She was born on October 10th, 1944 in Canton to her late parents Clark and Mary Ellen Griffin. She retired from the Bonnot Company in 2005 and proudly served the Plain Local School district for 8 years after that. Joan enjoyed spending her time with her family, as well as local Bingo nights with her friends. She will always be remembered by her friends and family for her lighthearted, up-for-anything attitude and her willingness to help any and every one she met, no questions asked. She was a vibrant light of love, whose soothing tone and demeanor, warm hugs, sense of humor, unconditional love and affection was impossible to duplicate and will never be forgotten.

Joan was blessed with a full life and enough love in her heart to spoil all 9 of her Grandchildren and her 4 Great-Grandchildren, whom she loved deeply. Besides her parents, Joan is preceded in death by her late husband, Donald Rothermel; brother, Earl Griffin; sister, Mary Ellen (Griffin) Leslie; and brother-in-law Anthony Michael Leslie, Jr. Joan is survived by sister Margaret (Bob) Laskey; brother James (Sandy) Griffin; sister-in-law Karen (Griffin) Leslie; daughters Christina (Tod) Coles, Valerie (Paul) Fisher, and Melanie (James) Newton; grandchildren, Zachary (Jordan), Erin and Drake Terry, Tabitha, Griffin, Samiya, Zayda and Sebastian Newton, and PFC Michael Coles; and great-grandchildren Lincoln Welch-Scofield, Elliana and Finnian Terry, and Sophia Terry.
