Timothy J. Petry

Timothy J. Petry

Age 77, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family and friends, on February 21, 2023 due to long-term complications from Covid-19. Tim was born on October 13, 1945 in Canton.

He was an excellent athlete in his youth and, in his later years, was an avid sports fan who loved following the Ohio State Buckeyes and Cleveland professional teams. Tim graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1963 and the University of Dayton in 1967, earning a degree in Mathematics. He then attended Case Western Reserve University for a short time before beginning his professional life. He worked both in the financial sector and in the IT industry, the latter of which he retired from in 2009.

Tim was a devout Catholic and a daily Mass attendee. He was an active member of St. Michael’s Parish in Canton for 34 years and at St. Paul’s Parish in North Canton since 2007. At St. Paul’s, he served on the Finance Committee and the Landscaping Committee, and coordinated electronic communications for Sanctuary Cove Bible Study.

Tim was preceded in death by his parents, Doris (Tillitski) and Leonard Petry; sister and brother-in-law, Jo Ellen and Dick Pike; mother- and father-in-law, Mary and Rudolph Rex; brother-in-law, Dominic Rex; and sister-in-law, Teresa Rex.

He is survived by the love of his life, Victoria (Rex) Petry, whom he married on May 11, 1968; children Mary Petry (Chris) Meyer of Cincinnati, John (Charlotte) Petry of Kettering, OH, and Mark Leonard Petry of Boston, MA; granddaughters Rachel, Meredith, Erin, and Kristen Meyer—whom he lovingly referred to as his “grandgirls”; brother Thomas (Barbara) Petry of North Canton; sisters-in-law Linda Rex and Raeanne “Tish” (Joe) Bell of Canton; and brother-in-law Rudy Rex of Massillon. The Petry family would like to thank Drs. Metzger and Boutros and the Aultman Hospice staff—especially Gretchen, Sarah, and Sean, for their loving care of Tim.

Visitation will be held at Wackerly Funeral Home in Canton on Friday, March 3 from 4 to 6 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, March 4 at 10 am at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in North Canton with Fr. John Keehner as celebrant. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Memorial donations in Tim’s name may be made to Sancta Clara Monastery, Aultman Hospice, or Food for the Poor. Please no flowers.
