Our mission is to provide guidance and wisdom on end of-life services. Calvary Cemetery-Youngstown

History

Calvary Cemetery was dedicated on July 19th, 1885 by the Very Rev. Father Boff of Cleveland and has been a pillar of the Youngstown community since its opening. Spanning over 130 acres, Calvary blends the traditions of old and new to provide a beautiful and peaceful place for families to visit and honor their deceased loved ones. The first interment took place July 26th, 1885 and since then over 120,000 people have found their final resting place here.

Calvary is rich with the history of Youngstown and provides the final resting place for the first three bishops of the Youngstown Diocese as well as many of its clergy, and serves the needs of the Dominican Fathers, Oblate Sisters, and Ursuline Sisters. Many of Youngstown’s founding families have made Calvary their final resting place on Family Estate Row which bridges the divide between the historic and contemporary parts of the cemetery.

Calvary’s first mausoleum, Blessed Mother/St. Anthony was completed in 1994, and in the following years, five more mausoleums were added with the most recent, Our Lady of the Holy Rosary/St. Michael, being completed in 2011. Each mausoleum is named in honor of different parishes in the Diocese. The mausoleum area also features free-standing columbaria for cremated remains and The Good Shepherd which is a mausoleum dedicated to the burial of the priests who serve the Youngstown Diocese.

Calvary Cemetery provides options for traditional ground burial, cremation niches, cremation ground burials, mausoleum crypts, lawn crypts, and family estates. Our Family Service Advisors are available to provide support and guidance to our families whether you are in need of immediate assistance or are interested in advanced planning.
