Dorothy Ruth Kenny Carracher

Dorothy Ruth Kenny Carracher, age 90, of Massillon, Ohio.

On January 19th, 1933, Dorothy Carracher came into this world and filled it with adventure and laughter. She was born in Jersey City, NJ and raised by her beloved grandparents, James and Brigid Kenny. On the evening of Sunday, January 22, 2023, she passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones. The family would like to thank Broadway Senior Center of Medina, Ohio, for their loving care of Dorothy in her final months. The family would also like to thank Loretta Lowe, her home caretaker for much of the last decade.

Dorothy enjoyed attending mass at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She was a long-time volunteer at Massillon Community Hospital and encouraged all who knew her to volunteer and give back to the world.

In the 1950s, she was especially proud of her time working on Wall Street and in the Empire State Building as a personal secretary. In the 1960s, she went on to shine as the East Coast Military Wife of the year to her husband, SFC Frank Carracher, where she did swim lessons and served as lifeguard at the Bayonne Naval Base, launched the Boy Scout program and organized many children’s activities, including the Christmas party where Frank served as Santa. In the 1970s, she moved to Massillon, Ohio with her husband and four children in tow, where she learned to drive for the first time in her 40s. She retired as an exemplary employee of Superior and Sugardale Meats in the 1980s.

She was a devoted Girl Scout leader and supported Boy Scouts of America. She was an expert knitter, seamstress and threw the occasional pottery piece.

She loved to travel and especially enjoyed living in Babenhausen, Germany, as an Army wife in the 1960s. With her cousin Meryle, she visited her Kenny family’s ancestral home in Castlebar, Ireland in the early 1990s.

She loved playing scratch off lottery tickets and was amazed in the Fall of 2019 to win $10,000. She scratched her final winning ticket the day she passed and won $1.00.

Preceding Dorothy were her beloved husband, SFC (RET) Francis J. Carracher and son, Thomas M. Carracher.

She is survived by her son, Ben Rudo, Jr.  and his wife, M; along with grandson, James Rudo, father of great-grandchildren, James II and Brady; and granddaughter, Colleen Folsom, wife of Eron and mother to great-grandchildren, TJ and Andrew. She is also survived by two daughters, Dorothy Davis, wife of Todd and mother to Drew, Austin and Mary Kate and Irene Kistler, wife of Greg and mother to Larry and Katie.

Services are private, although she will be laid to rest alongside her husband and son at Calvary Cemetery in Massillon, Ohio.

Donations in Dorothy’s memory can be made to the St. Mary’s National Shrine of Saint Dymphna, patroness of those afflicted with mental and nervous disorders and St. Vincent de Paul Society, 206 Cherry Rd NE, Massillon, OH 44646.
